Does Islam advocate violence and terror against non Muslims? Part 1

A number of verses of the Quran are controversial and often used to justify religious terrorism. For instance, Quran 2:193 says, “And fight until there is no fitnah and religion is for Allah”, Q.8:60 says, “And strike terror into the hearts of the enemies of Allah and your enemies”, and Q.8:12-13 states, “Instill terror in the hearts of the disbelievers. Smite their necks and smite their fingertips and kill them where you find them.” Some take these verses to mean that all non-Muslims are enemies and should be forced to become Muslims or be subjected to brutal violence and terror under the dominion of an Islamic state. This video explores the context of these verses in relation to verses preceding and succeeding them, as well as the understanding and practice of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his Companions/Sahaba.
